Early Years – Nursery and Reception

Moorhouse Nursery

Moorhouse Academy is home to a warm and welcoming nursery for 3-year-olds; the perfect first step in your child’s education journey.

The nursery offers a fun and interactive learning environment for children with a curriculum based on ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage’ (more details on the curriculum can be found on the Nursery Class page).

Nursery classes are taught by full-time teachers and highly qualified teaching assistants to complement your child’s learning and development.

Be sure to view our Welcome Presentation and Early Years Foundation Stage Prospectus on our Admissions page. Parents and carers can find out what to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage here.

“The level of progress my little girl has made since starting Nursery in September has been exceptional and we cannot thank the Early Years department enough for this outcome!” – Parent

Applying to Nursery

Children are able to start nursery once they turn 3 years old. There are 3 intakes for nursery throughout the year, the first in September, the second in January and the final intake for the year in April.

  • Children who turn 3 years old before 1st September can start in September.
  • Children who turn 3 years old before 1st January can start in January.
  • Children who turn 3 years old before 1st April can start in April.

You can apply for your child’s place at nursery by completing the application form here. Please contact us if you have any other enquiries.

Please note: nursery children must re-apply for a school reception place. A place in our nursery does not guarantee a reception class place.

Visit Our Nursery

Prospective families are warmly invited to tour the nursery by appointment and experience the nurturing environment and exciting curriculum for themselves.

The Headteacher and other members of staff will be available to answer any questions you may have and you will be able to tell us more about your child.

We also offer home visits as well as stay and play sessions where parents and carers have the opportunity to come into nursery and spend time playing with their children.

Starting school can be a daunting experience for children so we want parents to feel as comfortable and confident as possible when choosing a nursery for their child.

To book a nursery visit, please contact office@moorhouseacademy.co.uk.

Childcare Funding

Currently, all parents and carers of 3 and 4-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of childcare support a week. Eligible working parents and carers of 3 and 4-year-olds are entitled to 30 hours of childcare support a week.

To check your eligibility and apply for childcare provisions please visit the Government Childcare Choices website.

Moorhouse Reception

Attending nursery at Moorhouse prepares your child for life in reception where they will continue their learning based on ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage.’

Children will already be familiar with the school setting having started their education journey at Moorhouse nursery, allowing children to feel more at home once they start reception.

Children can look forward to even more fun and immersive learning once they reach reception with opportunities to build on their friendships, learn through engaging activities and continue their development in a familiar environment.

Applying to Reception

You can apply for your child’s place in reception through the Local Authority Admissions department via Rochdale Council website. For full details on Moorhouse’s admissions policy, visit the Applications page.
