Governance

The Moorhouse Academy Governing Board provides strategic leadership and accountability within the school.  It has three aims:

1. Oversee the financial performance

2. Oversee the educational performance

3. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

The school is part of the Watergrove Trust and it is independent of the local authority.

The Governing Body is made up of trustees, staff and parents who all have different skills and attributes.

Governors are expected to serve for a four year term and they meet 6 times a year.

Overall responsibility for the governance of the school lay with the Board of Trustees.

Christine Ainley
Vice Chair of Governors / SEND Link Governor / Attainment Link Governor

I am married with two grown up children, who both attended school at Moorhouse. I have lived in the local area all my adult life and have over twenty years experience of working in  an education setting.  I have worked in further education, training teaching assistants up to HNC level and many years in primary school working with children with a range of special needs.

I feel I have a great deal to offer the school in my role as a governor. Moorhouse is a very welcoming and caring environment. All staff work hard to ensure children are offered a broad and balanced curriculum, whilst making sure the school is a fun place to be, where they can feel safe and valued. I look forward to seeing the children develop their skills, make good progress and become successful, polite and caring young people who are ready for the next stage of their education.

David Johnson
Governor / Health and Safety Link Governor

I joined the governing body of Moorhouse Academy in December 2022 and was previously a Trustee of Watergrove Academy. My background is in management and leadership within the timber industry and I hope to utilise my skills and expertise to support the building improvement programme and by sitting on the health and safety committee.

I believe that every child deserves an equal opportunity to thrive and progress educationally and in their life skills and be the best they can be. I am proud to support the leadership team at Moorhouse Academy, as they continue to improve the learning experience for the children and their families.

Kelly Milnes
Headteacher / Ex-officio by virtue of office as headteacher / principal

I joined Moorhouse in 2019 as the Deputy Headteacher whilst it was still part of the Local Authority. I was drawn to Moorhouse due to its child and family centered approach and I was confident that I could support the challenges that it was facing.
I was appointed as the permanent Head of School in May 2021, just after the school academised and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead the school on the next phase of its improvement journey. I am now the Headteacher of Moorhouse Academy.

I am committed to the children, families and community that Moorhouse Academy serves and to ensuring that every child has a quality education and school experience that they deserve. I am proud of our school ethos of LEARN and will endeavour to lead a team that promotes skills and attributes that children can continue to apply in every stage of their lives to enable them to be successful members of their community throughout their lives.
