Welcome to Year 4
General information
Here you will find useful information about your child’s learning including links to learning materials and information about how you can best support the at home.
You will also find information about the current learning and celebrations of the work being undertaken in school.
Reminders:
PE days are Thursday and Friday.
- We start our days at 8:35am (doors closing at 8:45) and finish at 3:15pm
- Things to remember
- Year 4 doors open at 8.35am and close at 8.45am to allow adequate time to complete attendance and lunch registers. Any late arrivals please report to the school office. School closes to children at 3.15pm.
- Children should have their full kit in school all week.
- Spellings are given on Friday and are tested the following Friday. Please remember to practice at home.
- Homework will be set on Century AI each Friday and will be due by the following Wednesday. If your child does not complete their homework, they will miss their Friday break time.

How to help your child at home
- Practise spelling Year 3/4 Statutory spellings or Common exception words in lots of fun ways and applying them in sentences.
- Read with your child daily, asking them challenging questions about their reading.
- Practise recalling number facts including times tables, addition and subtraction, children can use Times Tables Rockstars for this.
- Year 4 children need to know all of their times tables up to 12×12 ready for the Multiplication check in June.
- Practice writing with your child – it could be something you have done at the weekend or something that they are interested in.

English
Our class text this half term is ‘The Nothing to See Here Hotel’ by Steven Butler.
The children will be writing a diary entry and a chapter ending.
Maths
This half term we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division; Length and Perimeter.
The children will also be working on the times tables ready for the Multiplication Check in June.
Geography
This half term the children will be looking at the question ‘Who lives in Antarctica?’
PE
Our PE topic for this term is net and wall games. Our EdStart PE sessions are every Tuesday afternoon. PE kit must be in school. Any children that forget their kit will not be taking part in PE due to health and safety reasons.
Science
Our Science topic this half term is Animals including humans.

- Last day of term: Friday 13th February. Children return on Monday 23rd February
