SEND and the Curriculum

SEND Curriculum Intent

At Moorhouse Academy we believe it is the right of all pupils to access a broad and balanced curriculum. We believe that all pupils can experience success in learning, in their friendships, relationships and in their wider school experiences. We are aware that the right to a common curriculum does not automatically ensure access to it, nor progress within it. Therefore we believe that it is the role of teachers and support staff to eliminate barriers, as far as possible, which prevent pupils from participating fully. We believe that every teacher is a teacher of Special Needs.

Engagement Model

  • Pupils identified as working below the Pre Key Stage Standards in both KS1 and KS2 are supported to access an appropriate, meaningful and effective curriculum that they can be assessed against for progress through the Engagement Model.
  • Key staff have received high quality training to implement approaches, learning opportunities and breadth of experience within the Engagement Model.
  • We have a dedicated area of school that is designed to enable key opportunities for children to learn within the  5 areas of Engagement to prepare pupils for access to National Curriculum learning.
