Moorhouse Academy’s Enchanted Rainforest is Open … Now!
To celebrate the official launch of Moorhouse Academy’s magical new library, children were joined by local author Mark Sanders and his Newfoundland Bandit.
Each year group enjoyed a reading from Mark himself, assisted by his lovely dog Bandit, where he read from his books Monty and the Land of Dino Dogs, Bandit Lost in the Forest and Monty and the Ocean Rescue.
The stories were brought to life by Bandit who features as a main character in the books. His huge size and gentle composure was a real calming influence on the children.
The children had the chance to say hello to Bandit and displayed excellent calm and gentle behaviour towards him. Weighing 60kg, Bandit is a true gentle giant!
After the reading, children were invited to ask questions. Mark answered a series of insightful and interesting questions, including ‘How do you make a book enjoyable?’, ‘When did you start writing?’ and ‘How long does it take to write a book?’
Mark also gave some really helpful advice on how to start writing for some of our aspiring authors. The wonderful questions made for a really interesting discussion about writing, reading and of course, animals!
Mark has kindly donated a number of his titles for our children to read in our lovely new Enchanted Rainforest Library. After being renovated over the summer holidays, the library is officially open for all of our pupils to enjoy.
The walls are adorned with vibrant artwork featuring the childrens’ favourite stories, including the Stick Man, the Gruffalo and Owl Babies, all within the setting of an enchanted rainforest. With tree stump stools and vibrant green bookcases to match, the space is fun, calming and cosy.
Mark and Bandit’s visit to Moorhouse is just one part of a week-long celebration of reading for this year’s World Book Week.
This week, parents from each year group at Moorhouse are being invited into school to read with their children in the lovely new library. Mark will also return to school on World Book Day to personally deliver books to those children who have purchased them.
