Storm in the Community
At Moorhouse Academy, we are always looking for dynamic ways to broaden our pupils’ horizons, build their confidence, and spark new passions. We were absolutely delighted to welcome the team from Storm in the Community, the dedicated community outreach branch of the Manchester Storm Ice Hockey team, for an unforgettable, action-packed day of learning and sport.
Members of the Manchester Storm squad took time out from the rink to visit our young learners, bringing with them a wealth of expert knowledge, high energy, and genuine inspiration.
The visit began with an engaging session where players shared their experiences of professional sport, teamwork, dedication, and keeping active, offering our pupils a fantastic real-world look at where hard work and perseverance can lead.
The excitement reached a whole new level during the hands-on practical workshop. Armed with hockey sticks and pucks, our children stepped up to learn and refine essential stick-handling, control, and coordination skills under the guidance of top-tier athletes. Whether trying stickwork for the very first time or showing off existing flair, every pupil threw themselves into the activities with tremendous energy and enthusiasm.
Bringing the Power of Sport to Local Schools
Visits like these highlight the extraordinary value that Storm in the Community delivers to schools across our region. Their outreach programme goes far beyond standard sports coaching by delivering:
- Expert Knowledge & Positive Role Models: Professional athletes connect directly with pupils, sharing inspiring messages about teamwork, health, resilience, and respect.
- Inclusive, Practical Workshops: Tailored sessions ensure every child, regardless of prior experience or ability, can get involved, build fundamental motor skills, and experience the joy of trying something new.
- Community Connection: Bringing elite local sport straight into the school hall, fostering community pride and giving children access to sports they might not otherwise experience.
Seeing our hall filled with determination, laughter, and newly discovered skills was a brilliant reminder of how powerful community partnerships are in helping our children flourish.
