GB Paralympic Sprinter, Michael Churm
Sports for Schools is a social enterprise with a mission to help children to be more physically active. Over the past couple of decades, scientists have explained and confirmed how physical activity improves many aspects of a child’s life, including their academic performance and general wellbeing.
They achieve their mission by bringing top athletes, World champions, Olympians and Paralympians, into primary schools all over the UK to run inspiring events. They work with over 50 brilliant athletes from a range of disciplines and sports, each one with a unique story to tell about about overcoming challenges and the importance of following your dreams.
These events help schools raise money for resources that promote physical activity.
On Tuesday 11th October, GB Paralympic Sprinter, Michael Churm attended school. He competed in the T37 category. He made the finals in both the T37 100m and 200m finals in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Michael’s greatest high is winning his Paralympic silver medal and becoming European Champion.
The pupils from all classes carried out 4 difference exercises for 10 minutes, which was overseen by the ‘Sportinator’ Sean Rafferty.
Michael ended the day with an assembly. He spoke about how he had to work hard to achieve his goals. His message linked perfectly with the school’s core ethos, LEARN; Learn together, Encourage others, Achieve potential, Respect for all and Never give up.
We hope that he has inspired our pupils to follow their dreams!
