Charging and Remissions Policy

January 2021

Review date April 2021 - Upon Academisation

Moorhouse Primary School operates its Charging Policy to reflect the Mission Statement.

All education during school hours is free. We do not charge for any activity undertaken as part of the National Curriculum with the exception of individual or group music tuition.

When organising school trips, visits or activities which enrich the curriculum and educational experience of the children, the school invites parents to contribute to the cost of the trip. All contributions are voluntary. If we do not receive sufficient voluntary contributions, we may cancel a trip. If a trip goes ahead, it may include children whose parents have not paid any contribution. We do not treat these children differently from any others.

If a parent wishes their child to take part in a school trip or event, but is unwilling or unable to make a voluntary contribution, we do allow the child to participate fully in the trip or activity. Sometimes the school pays additional costs in order to support the visit. Parents have a right to know how each trip is funded. The school provides this information on request.

We request the voluntary contribution for each school trip. School contributes the same amount per child from the school budget.

The following is a list of additional activities organised by the school, which require voluntary contributions from parents. These activities are known as ‘optional extras’. This list is not exhaustive:

  • visits to museums;
  • sporting activities which require transport expenses;
  • outdoor adventure activities;
  • visits to the theatre or theatre groups visiting school;
  • musical events.

Parents can purchase the accepted school uniform from a local supplier directly.

All children study music as part of the normal school curriculum. We do not charge for this.

There is a charge for individual or group music tuition if this is not part of the National Curriculum, where peripatetic music teachers from Rochdale Music Service teach individual or group lessons.

The school organises swimming lessons for children. These take place in school time and are part of the National Curriculum. We make no charge for this activity. We inform parents when these lessons are to take place, and we ask parents for their written permission for their child to take part in swimming lessons. We may ask that parents make a contribution to the cost of the bus transport as it is too far for the children to walk.

The school offers other extra-curricular activities run by members of staff, some of which may be seasonal e.g. rounders.  There may be a small charge for these activities.

All children, in the term following their 3rd Birthday are entitled to 15 hours free Nursery Education and there is now a further entitlement for working parents to receive an additional 15 hours. The school offers full time places and for any parent not entitled to 30 hours funding these additional hours are chargeable at £3 per hour. These fees are still payable if the child is absent.

Pupils eligible for pupil premium funding are entitled to subsidised trips and music tuition.
